Building the Tech Foundation for Optic Truck Works
Earlier this month, our team visited the Optic Truck Works (OTW) Headquarters in Watchung, NJ. What started as a casual site visit turned into an inspiring reminder of why we do what we do at FreeTech—empower growing businesses with powerful, custom-built technology.
From Home Office to a Full Operation
Our partnership with OTW started in early 2023, back when they were operating out of a home office. Our first project together was a financing application management system. Since then, we've worked closely with their leadership to architect and implement the entire technical foundation behind their expanding operations.
Today, OTW runs a growing team of nearly a dozen employees who rely on our software daily to process financing applications, manage inventory, coordinate logistics, and more. Working with our clients in-person was fulfilling, watching OTW employees utilize our software provided us with insights which are difficult to extract in a remote setting.
How FreeTech has supported Optic Truck Work's Growth
At FreeTech, we don't just build software—we’re committed to growing with our clients every step of the way as their business evolves. From day one, our relationship with Optic Truck Works (OTW) has gone beyond delivering software—it’s been about building a foundation for long-term success.
As OTW scaled from a home-based operation into a thriving logistics business with a dedicated office and full operations team, we worked closely with their leadership to evolve the technology in step with their growth. Each time their operations expanded or their needs shifted, we were there—integrating new features, optimizing workflows, and ensuring the platform could support real-time operations across departments.
From adding advanced automation to improving cross-team communication and introducing AI-powered decision tools, our goal has always been the same: equip OTW with the systems and tools they need to move faster, work smarter, and stay ahead as their business grows.

Our Technology Foundation
At FreeTech, we've engineered a robust, scalable technology stack that’s standardized across all our clients. This battle-tested foundation enables us to deliver business value quickly and reliably, without getting bogged down in technical complexity. It powers the software behind Optic Truck Works and many of our other clients.
Our frontend stack is built with Firebase, React, and Material UI, delivering fast, responsive interfaces. On the backend, we use Node.js with Express to handle both RESTful APIs and real-time socket communication. Firebase Functions and Google Cloud Pub/Sub provide reliable, event-driven processing and decoupled system communication. Firestore serves as our primary database, supporting flexible, semi-structured data storage.
Our backend services are containerized with Docker and deployed via Google Cloud Run, allowing for seamless auto-scaling based on demand. Our entire codebase is written in TypeScript with strong typing, helping us catch issues early at compile time. We rely on Jest and robust mocking frameworks to rigorously test our backend logic, ensuring reliability and stability in production.
Affordable Infrastructure
At FreeTech, we design infrastructure with efficiency and scale in mind. For Optic Truck Works (OTW), we've deployed multiple production-grade web applications and microservices—all running on a lean Google Cloud setup that costs just $30/month. This is significantly lower than the cost of most traditional SaaS tools or platform subscriptions, yet it supports far more flexibility and customization.
Our infrastructure leverages serverless and containerized technologies—such as Firebase Functions, Google Cloud Run, and Firestore—which auto-scale based on demand and require zero server maintenance. This setup enables OTW to support full-time in-office usage across multiple departments and handle hundreds to thousands of daily user interactions without performance issues or cost overruns.
FreeTech has already solved the infrastructure puzzle—our cloud-native, cost-efficient architecture ensures clients avoid inflated bills and never have to worry about managing or scaling infrastructure as their organization scales.
Operational Efficiency Solutions
We refer to what we've implemented for Optic Truck Works as an "Operational Efficiency Solution." FreeTech offers solutions of this nature to a variety of logistics and operations businesses across the automotive, real estate, construction, and insurance industries. Many of our clients transition from tools like HubSpot and Salesforce or are fragmented across multiple tools and spreadsheets, making it difficult to stay organized, scale, and onboard new resources. We provide tools tailored directly to your needs, rather than cookie-cutter solutions that lack the unique functionality required to scale your business. Our Mission in Action
At FreeTech, our mission is to give startups and small businesses access to enterprise-level technology—without the cost or complexity of hiring and maintaining an in-house software team. OTW is a clear example of that mission in action. Starting with zero technical foundation, we’ve worked closely with OTW stakeholders to build a variety of tools that have fueled their growth over the years. We’re honored to be part of their journey and excited for what’s ahead as they continue to expand.
